DIVAS of Coquitlam Presbyterian Church – 2 April 2014

A sea of shimmering silver shone up at me as I presented to the Coquitlam Presbyterian Women’s group yesterday. The oldest lady there was 93 years old and still going strong!
“Silver hair is a beautiful crown found in a righteous life” (Proverbs 16:31). These beautiful women who sat before me all wore crowns of glory. They are my heroes!

They call themselves The DIVAS, which stands for ‘Divinely Inspired Victorious And Serving’ women. So fitting! One dear lady knits socks for homeless feet on the Downtown Eastside, every stitch a stitch of love.

I’m inspired by their tenacity, wisdom and willingness to serve even during their later years, when many people choose to retire. God has a plan and purpose for us no matter how old or weak we become. He uses everyone and everything for His glory! Our job is to be willing and obedient to step into what He calls us to do – and that happens at any age.

So I’m encouraged as I move into my golden or should I say ‘silver’ years. God’s not done with me yet! How about you?

Southridge - We are ALL ONE
As I pulled into the parking lot of Southridge School last night, I was impacted by the signs that fluttered from the light posts along the driveway, proudly announcing – ‘Here we are all ONE’. It was a perfect Segway into what I was speaking about to the students and parents.

At NightShift we are one: us and them. Somehow we believe the poor are less than us! I spoke about removing the labels, the stigmas, that society places on people on the street suffering with poverty, addictions and mental illness, and that we all play a part in finding the solution to help those who can’t help themselves. Society is judged by how we treat our weakest members. Let’s rethink how we look at people. Let’s step out of our comfort zone to bless someone for the seven days – start by giving a smile to someone you don’t know. Pay it forward.

God shifted my heart to grasp the gnarled, dirty and bruised hands of people in our own backyard. “This is my Hand,” I heard the Lord whisper to my spirit, and I was humbled beyond words.

In spite of the snowstorm, God blessed us with amazing music, worship and community: made possible by the generous individuals who gathered to share in God’s glory.
